- (General Dispatch) – The British electoral commission rejected the Black Lives Matter movement’s efforts to register as a political party as they believe they may mislead voters.
- “The application to register Black Lives Matter as a political party was refused by the Commission on the basis that the proposed name is likely to mislead a voter as to the effect of their vote,” A spokesman for the regulator entity said.
- “As part of our considerations we examined the existing groups by the same or similar names in the UK. Having contacted a number of groups, they confirmed that the party was not associated with them,”
- “Our assessment concluded that, whilst the BLM movement is a grassroots movement, it was still likely that the proposed name would mislead a voter as to the effect of their vote. This was on the basis that a reasonable voter could assume that the party represents, or is in some way associated with, these groups when that is not the case,”
- “If a name cannot be accepted, the associated application must be rejected. In addition, other elements of the application were rejected, including the constitution and financial scheme.” the spokesman explained.
- For now the BLM movement in the UK has disassociated itself from the situation by assuring that they have made no effort to register as a political party, and emphasize that it is not them.
- Also a spokesman for the BLM UK movement assured that they have no intention of entering the political arena, they define themselves only as a group that fights for racial equality and rights in the world.
- The acceptance of the movement in the UK has had mixed reactions, with some political sectors pointing to it as a destabilizing Marxist group that should have no place in the nation.
