China Claims that Homosexuality is a Psychological Disorder

  • (General Dispatch) – Textbooks in China lately refer to homosexuality as a “psychological disorder”, what appeared to be a mistake, turned out to be approved by a court.
  • A reader nicknamed Xixi was surprised when she read a university textbook and noticed that homosexuality appeared in that term. She tried to file a lawsuit, but the Suqian Intermediate People’s Court of Jiangsu Province denied her.
  • The book, entitled “Mental Health Education,” was approved for use at Jinan University in China’s Guangzhou province in 2016, referring to homosexuality in a derogatory manner as a psychological problem.
  • The Chinese government in 2001 had removed the term psychiatric disorder, stating that anyone who had this orientation would be seen as normal, however if there were people who did not accept this orientation they could receive psychiatric help.
  • Many readers have tried to raise their voices through lawsuits against publishers, where much of the content is anti-LGBTQ, The complex thing for readers is that most books are published by the Chinese regime.
  • Another girl named Qiu Bai has complained, which has gone unanswered since she sued several times in 2015 and 2016 and referred “Since 2001, when homosexuality was declassified as a disease in mainland China, 40 percent of psychology and mental health teaching materials published in mainland China say homosexuality is a disease,” Bai said.
  • LGBTQ community events in China are often limited by state-imposed policies, in 2020 it canceled a major “ShanghaiPRIDE” event where it was alleged that they took such action because of the pandemic.
