- (General Dispatch) – After Great Britain created the “Test and Trace” system, it has invested around £37 billion, money paid by taxpayers and parliamentarians who have shown discomfort about its efficiency in the nation.
- Test and Trace is a service that allows tracking the spread of COVID 19 and thus isolating those infected to prevent the spread of the virus, as well as indicating the statistics of contagion at local or national level.
- Some parliamentarians have been angered by the high amounts of money that have been invested and have not had satisfactory results; the system has not given the expected results, wasting taxpayers’ money.
- Labour MP Meg Hillier told a media outlet The Times: “Despite the unimaginable resources that have been invested in this project, Test and Trace cannot point to a measurable difference in the progress of the pandemic and the promise on which this huge expenditure was made. Justified, avoiding another roadblock has been broken twice.”
- A report made in September 2020 where COVID 19 had a spike Test and Trace was not very effective at testing failing to meet demand.
- On the other hand, parliamentarians complained that the system did not enforce the isolation of those who were positive; the British did not comply with the 10-day lockdown as required.
- Despite the criticism of the MPs, Minister Boris Johnson said “Thanks to NHS Test and Trace we can send children back to school and begin cautiously and irreversibly to reopen our economy and restart our lives” assuming that the system has been a success and has helped citizens to return to normality.
