  • By Ely Marquez
  • (General Dispatch) – Following demands made by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, the Department of Homeland Security is moving forward with a program to vaccinate the National Border Patrol Council against Covid-19.
  • At least 64,000 employees will be vaccinated in the first instance expressed the Homeland Security Council, a fact that Brandon Judd president of the Border Patrol, described as “smoke and mirrors”.
  • According to information issued by a DHS spokesman, “There is no higher priority than the health and safety of our workforce.” In relation to this sector was not prioritized by the White House.
  • The vaccination process is done through the VA, which reaches very few hospitals, generating an increasingly long list where officers continue to be on standby.
  • In this regard, Judd called the DHS program a “bureaucratic nightmare,” stating that the distribution of the vaccine is totally inefficient.
  • As an irregular policy on the part of Joe Biden’s administration, the decision continues to be framed as one that does not protect the agents most vulnerable to contagion when dealing with numerous immigrants who may be infected.
  • Meanwhile, the state governor and the Border Patrol president are leading efforts to protect the lives at stake among their agents in the border areas. Putting further pressure on the Biden administration.
  • A significant increase in covid-19 infections in officers, immigrants and other border personnel is the result of not providing vaccine distribution in the region.
