Los Angeles: Parents Want Their Children Back in the Classroom

  • By Jennifer Prill
  • (General Dispatch) – More than 50% of the representatives want their children to start classes in mid-April despite the fact that classes will be taught on a mixed schedule, and educational institutions are expected to open gradually at all levels.
  • According to Austin Beutner, superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) made an agreement with members of his staff, to open the classrooms gradually, with a mixed model, classes will be taught on a face-to-face schedule and the rest through the network.
  • Beutner said that a survey is being conducted to take into account the opinions of parents, from the most basic level up to 12th grade, as well as the measures they believe are necessary for the development of the classes.
  • The survey was made to more than 400,000 families, and some of the questions asked were whether they thought it was necessary to continue with distance classes or if they preferred to have mixed schedules in the middle or end of April.
  • Most parents have preferred face-to-face classes, as their children retain even more of the classes taught by teachers, as opposed to remote ones, which can be easily distracted.
  • However, there is a considerable % of families who are reluctant, these being the communities where covid 19 infection rates have been high.
  • Beutner assured “Every effort is being made to protect the health and safety of everyone in the school community, air filtration systems have been upgraded in all schools, janitorial staff has been doubled to clean and disinfect every school. in the classroom, all students and staff will receive weekly COVID testing in schools and access to the vaccine will be offered to all staff.”
  • Breitbart News said that as long as health measures are strictly followed, the risk of children contracting the virus is very minimal.
