- (General Dispatch) – With a human memorial, Italy commemorated a year after recording the highest death toll in history due to the pandemic.
- Bergamo was visited by Prime Minister Mario Draghi on Thursday, observing a minute’s silence and raising the flag to half-mast to remember the victims who disappeared after the contagions of the coronavirus.
- This wood does not only contain the memory of the many victims,” Draghi said. “This place is a symbol of the pain of an entire nation.”
- The nostalgia and tears in the eyes of some spectators were noticeable, as it is the memory of an unexpected event that mourned thousands of homes in this city.
- Among the words expressed by the minister, they highlighted the honor paid to the at least 100,000 deceased who left a year ago, Dragh said.
- In other words, this will be a date that the population will remember with deep sorrow, said one of the people who was at the site.
- Undoubtedly, thousands of families in Bergamo are still devastated, unable to overcome the loss they suffered a year ago. And it is still part of their reality.
- After many days, the pandemic is still present and causing the same effect as the previous year, that the nightmare ends is the cry of the citizens in a day of mixed feelings.
