Migrants Camp Out in Mexico as Biden Welcomes Them

  • By James Kravitz
  • (General Dispatch) –   The Associated Press reported that in the port of Tijuana, Mexico there are more than 200 tents with migrants waiting for Biden to issue the order for the border to be opened.
  • About 1,500 migrants are living together on the other side of San Diego. In order to stay in place, they heat meals on stoves and engage in outdoor activities as a means of distraction.
  • The migrants are hoping that the border will be opened and once inside the nation they will be able to ask for asylum, although the White House has not issued any information in this regard.
  • The large number of migrants is due to the fact that Biden’s presidency has been changing certain border policies of the Trump administration, promoting the amnesty bill that is still under discussion.
  • The amnesty law aims to give 11 million undocumented immigrants citizenship, for this reason some migrants see this law as hopeful in order to improve their quality of life.
  • The tents were pitched after President Biden announced a pause in the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) where a small number of migrants were processed and admitted to enter the US.
  • There are even migrants coming from other continents, and Biden’s announcements may have been misinterpreted, but the situation has already gotten out of control and they are awaiting new measures to improve the chaos at the border.
