Modern Slavery Continues in the UK Since Last Year

  • By Jennifer Prill
  • (General Dispatch) –   The Home Office is conducting investigations after receiving complaints about possible cases of modern slavery in the United Kingdom.
  • It should be clear that the term “modern slavery” encompasses human trafficking, slavery, servitude or forced labor, which is assisted by first responder organizations.
  • The National Referral Mechanism (NRM) is a tool used by the United Kingdom to help direct victims of human trafficking, which has been improved in recent years.
  • Victims over the age of 18 can give consent if they need to be treated through the NRM. In cases of children, consent is not required.
  • Those who are adults but were victims when they were minors will also be considered. According to legislation in Great Britain, the authorities must report these cases to the Home Office for assessment.
  • According to current figures, there are 10,613 cases of modern slavery, a similar number to last year, and the statistical study stated that 63% of the cases come from the United Kingdom.
  • The Home Office said that older adults were victims of forced labor and minors were influenced to commit criminal acts through organized mafias.
  • Home Secretary Priti Patel said that the police were reluctant to get involved in cases of forced labor in some factories because those who manage the employees are of Asian nationality, thus avoiding generating a matrix of opinion about racial problems.
