- (General Dispatch) – Local Chinese media are claiming that the vaccine from the pharmaceutical company Sinovac BioTech is most effective with children between the ages of 3 and 17.
- The company’s medical director, Zeng Gang, released results of phase I and II clinical trials conducted on some adolescents and some children showing a moderate percentage of efficacy.
- According to Gang, 72 patients were immunized in Phase I and 480 in Phase II. After the vaccination, the patients presented mild side effects such as fever.
- According to the Global Times, it had censored certain information about Chinese vaccines which have been reported to have a lower efficacy rate than vaccines developed by other nations.
- Global Times issued a report apparently showing that China is free of the coronavirus so citizens do not see the need to get immunized of their own volition.
- “Amid concerns of an immunization gap and Western media doubts about slow inoculation, China has set out to cover a wider population and include different age groups in the national immunization plan,” said the Global Times.
- So far in China they have managed to vaccinate 45 million people by applying only the first dose and 21 million the second dose. China is targeting to immunize about 65% of the population by the end of the year.
- So far China claims that the vaccination of minors has been a success, and they hope to reveal more results and thus publicize the effectiveness of the vaccine.
