- (General Dispatch) – The Chinese Communist Party has started an offensive against the multinational company H&M for announcing that it will no longer buy cotton produced by slave labor.
- The CCP felt offended by such an accusation, starting a campaign to discredit the Swedish fashion company H&M through social networks, making threats and limiting its trade.
- China has been accused of committing crimes against humanity against a small Uyghur Muslim ethnic group in the Xinjiang region, forcing them to work in cotton production.
- The cotton produced in the Chinese region is one of the highest quality cottons, satisfying demand by 84%. On the other hand, the conflict increased when Chinese celebrities supported the CCP.
- H&M issued a statement stating that it wants to maintain trade relations with China, but will maintain its level of ethics, as it cannot support the slave labor involved in obtaining raw materials.
- “We are dedicated to regaining the trust of our customers, colleagues and business partners in China. By working together with stakeholders and partners, we believe we can take action in our joint efforts to develop the fashion industry, as well as serve our customers and act in a respectful manner “ Communicated the company.
- However, the Global Times media, despite H&M’s statement, has pointed out that the company is against the interests of the CCP, which is why it has maintained its offensive on social networks.
- The Chinese government is influencing the inhabitants to intervene H&M stores to be closed, however the Global Times has expressed its pleasure because the company has had large losses in its financial statements.
