Austrian Health Minister Resigns due to Stress and Anxiety

  • By Joergen Haisem
  • (General Dispatch) – The Berlin AP reported that Austria’s health minister resigned after coming under pressure and responsibility for leading the pandemic.
  • Rudolf Anschober, 60, had begun his work since the beginning of 2020, since he teamed up with conservative Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
  • However, Anschober’s handling of the coronavirus met with several criticisms, and he was relieved by a Vienna-based physician, Wolfgang Mueckstein.
  • Anschober said that for the past 9 years he had been suffering from exhaustion and lately he was suffering from health problems such as stress, anxiety, fatigue and high blood pressure.
  • The former minister said that he kept himself in constant visits to the doctor, and has been recommended to take a break; as such ailments were brought on by overwork.
  • Anschober told the British community “In the most serious health crisis in decades, the republic needs a health minister who is 100% fit, “I’m not at the moment, and I won’t be in the next few weeks if I don’t tighten the emergency brake.”
  • The pandemic will continue to demand an even greater effort, which is why Anschober preferred to have someone else take over, and thus be able to offer an effective and efficient job.
  • Austria has tried to strike a balance regarding restrictions, although they managed well and avoided a spread with the first wave, the country has faced a high infection rate.
