Boris Johnson: The UK’s Success with the Pandemic was due to Containment.

  • By James Kravitz
  • (General Dispatch) –    Minister Boris Johnson issued a statement assuring that Britain’s success with the coronavirus is due to the strict laws that were implemented from the beginning.
  • Containment was one of the best measures to prevent the spread of the virus according to Johnson, although he does not discount that the immunization campaign has brought positive results.
  • “I think people don’t appreciate that it’s the lockdown that has been overwhelmingly important in bringing about this improvement in the pandemic and in the numbers we’re seeing,” Johnson said.
  • However he said that as he lifts the restrictions as planned in his agenda, people must understand that it is inevitable that there will not be an increase in cases and deaths from the coronavirus.
  • The immunization campaign has successfully delivered the first dose of the vaccine to around 40 million Britons, and injections are now being given to other population groups.
  • Although the opening of different facilities offering services such as stores, gyms, hairdressers, among others, are being carried out in the open air. Pubs and restaurants are expected to start from May 17.
  • The minister has issued opinions on a total freedom through the media, the government warned that it would be cautious and would keep track of infection data; if necessary they would activate restriction measures again.
  • However, a debate has arisen as Minister Johnson contradicts data provided by the government’s Office for National Statistics, which has claimed that deaths from coronavirus were high despite the confinement.
