Denmark in Trouble Over Crime Wave Caused by Syrian Migrants

  • By John Deloria
  • (General Dispatch) – The wave of violence in Denmark has increased considerably over the last 8 years, and the Syrian community accounts for a large part of the crimes committed, mostly rape.
  • The Danish security ministry revealed the figures of the crimes they have committed, in 2020 987 rape charges were filed, a high figure compared to 2012 which was less than half.
  • Nick Hækkerup, the Minister of Justice, said that he is against all crimes involving rape, calling it repugnant and regretting that these are the most common crimes currently committed.
  • However, Nick said that real justice must be applied, as most cases go unprosecuted. According to him, there are around 4700 rapes involving men, women, and minors a year.
  • The figures reveal that a quarter of the rapists prosecuted are migrants, with the Syrian community accounting for the largest number involved in the crimes followed by Turks and stateless persons.
  • “The figures clearly show that we have an ethnic bias problem when a relatively large proportion of foreigners are convicted of rape, just as we have an obvious problem when more than half of the inmates in the country’s closed jails and detention centers are immigrants, descendants or foreigners,” said Nick.
  • On the other hand, Nick advised that after rapists serve their sentences, if they are immigrants, proceedings should be opened immediately to begin the process to allow for deportation.
  • The data was revealed weeks after Denmark’s Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, warned that stricter measures will be applied against crimes by non-Western men.
