NBA Approaching Record Low Audience Ratings

  • By Wayne Rodrigo
  • (General Dispatch) – The NBA recorded a significant decline in ratings, with ABC dropping 45% since the 2011- and 2012-season, while TNT dropped 40% and ESPN 20%.
  • It is worth noting that the last two NBA Finals have dropped consecutively, registering a 51% drop, marking historic lows.
  • So far, the league’s average audience share for the games is 2.3 million, followed by NBC’s crime drama, The Blacklist, with 3.3 million viewers and The Good Doctor with just over four million viewers.
  • According to the records it is evident that the NBA has collapsed, presumably the fan base claims that it has become involved with politics and this has not been favorable.
  • According to statistics from a major pollster, 39% of the fans surveyed feel that the NBA has become involved in politics and 19% said that professional basketball has fallen by the wayside.
  • In 2020 during the height of the pandemic, the NBA similarly did not do a good job of increasing viewership due to restrictions.
  • Apparently, the latest declines could have been caused by the covid-19 restrictions, but it is not the absolute truth of the NBA’s poor strengthening.
  • The forecasts for 2021 are not very encouraging and everything seems to indicate that the drop will continue to be considerable for the NBA.
