LePen’s Victory in France Remains Expected and Raises Concern

  • By John Deloria
  • (General Dispatch) – A former civil servant and politician Philippe Lazar has raised concerns and recommended a change of tactics to prevent the victory of candidate Marine Le Pen.
  • Philippe Lazar advises that the parliamentary elections should be held earlier than the proposed date for the presidential elections, this being an option to stop the victory of the populist candidate.
  • Politician Lazar said through the media Le Monde that if the measures proposed by him are abided by, he estimates that the candidate would not get the vote of at least half of the members of parliament affecting her candidacy.
  • “Emmanuel Macron knows very well that, even if he is re-elected, it will be by a small majority and that his supporters will not have an absolute majority in the National Assembly, which would make his second five-year term extremely difficult to overcome and manage, ” said Lazar.
  • The stipulated time to hold parliamentary elections is one month before the presidential election, and usually the influence of parliament is important to ensure victory as was the case for macron in 2017.
  • Currently Macron has had complications due to the measures he has adopted against the coronavirus; the lax measures he has implemented have not contributed to curb the virus that has expanded rapidly.
  • On the other hand, the conflicts he has had with the Muslim community have raised tensions, in the religious issue; bills have been proposed to avoid the influence of extremist groups.
  • However, the former French Minister of the Interior, Christophe Castaner, has asked the other candidates to focus on the candidate Marine Le Pen, and stop seeing Macron as the potential enemy in the elections.
