UEFA President Insists Super League Owners Must Reconsider Resolution
- By Joergen Haisem
- (General Dispatch) – UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin strongly urged the owners of English sports clubs in the context of the Super League project to change their stance.
- In a strong call to action, Ceferin criticized the six-club English group, which is structured by American billionaires, a Russian oligarch and Middle Eastern royalty.
- The comments came immediately after the launch of the Super League in alliance with three clubs from Italy and Spain.
- Ceferin, arguing to European soccer leaders at the annual meeting held by UEFA, “gentlemen made a serious mistake,” may call it greed, arrogance, or ignorance of soccer culture, but it is so.
- At the same time, he claimed that, “What matters is that there is still time to change your mind. We all make mistakes.”
- The emphasis of the dilemma, Ceferin said, is that respect must be returned to the England fans, who feel disrespected by the new alliance.
- Apparently Cefarin had received several e-mails from fans expressing the unfortunate fact that they feel that their clubs will not be the same, which motivated him to raise his voice.
- So far, the owners of the clubs have not commented on the matter, finally they are the ones who will make the pertinent determination of the actions they will take.
