Derek Chauvin Found Guilty in the Murder of George Floyd

  • (General Dispatch) – After three weeks of testimony in the murder of George Floyd, the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin finally concluded, and the jury found him guilty. 
  • This Tuesday afternoon Chauvin was found guilty of second and third degree murder in the death of George Floyd, the now inmate was handcuffed and taken to jail immediately.
  • The news combined joy mixed with sadness, as family members and people close to the former officer held out hope that he would be found not guilty, while hundreds of citizens across the country celebrated the conviction.
  • Derek Chauvin, a 45-year-old former police officer, could face decades of incarceration when his final sentence is handed down in approximately two months.
  • In retrospect, Chauvin’s case generated protests around the world, coupled with deep and evident racial violence ingrained in U.S. police officers and U.S. citizens.
  • Amid hugs and tears Floyd’s family held a family press conference in which George’s younger brother said, “It makes us happier to know that his life mattered and that he did not die in vain.”
  • Of equal importance, during the jury’s deliberation it could be noted that Chauvin was profoundly silent and showed little reaction to the events that swirled against him.
  • Meanwhile, it only remains to wait for the final sentence, which according to rumors could be 40 years, at the same time, this Wednesday; U.S. citizens expressed their joy that racism will also receive justice.
