United Kingdom Reduces Funding to China by 95%

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) – The British government has decided to cut funding to China by 95% after several political members announced that the nation’s spending has been too high, creating a fiscal burden for the future.
  • However, it is presumed that £ 1 million will be granted to the Asian country for its work on “human rights”, something that has generated some debate, after the accusations that have been made against it.
  • Dominic Raab, the Foreign Secretary, told parliament that the reduction would be £4 billion, money that would come out of the British people’s pockets, thus dropping GDP from 0.7% to 0.5%.
  • The British economy has been a victim of the consequences of the pandemic, which has made it necessary to ask parliament for large amounts of money to implement certain programs to help citizens.
  • “In China, I have reduced FCDO’s official development assistance (ODA) for program delivery by 95% to £0.9 million (with additional ODA this year only to cover contractual exit costs from previous programs),” said Raab.
  • Despite the fact that China has been singled out as the world’s worst human rights offender, having committed countless unjustified death sentences, especially with the major conflict in the Xinjiang region.
  • Currently the political tension has increased between the two nations, however Raab said that the measures could have been tougher, however the money sent can be used for other necessary sectors for the country.
  • Former Conservative Party leader Lain Duncan Smith, spoke out after the CCP imposed sanctions on him, asking why the government should fund the world’s second largest economy.
