Black Trans Lives Matter Demonstrations Lead to Confrontations with NYPD
- By Ely Marquez
- (General Dispatch) – Central Park in Manhattan on Thursday night was the scene of clashes between Black Trans Lives Matter activists and police officers.
- Initially, activists threw red paint at a statue of Christopher Columbus located near Central Park in Manhattan, when police officers guarding the site were attacked by the movement.
- At least two activists who provoked physical and verbal violence against the police were arrested last night during the events.
- Police officers qualified the incident as acts of violence and not as constitutionally recognized demonstrations.
- It should be noted that vandalism was one of the banners of the demonstration, who carried out actions to the detriment of the city’s patrimony.
- Beyond requesting that the rights of the Afro-descendant community be respected, it does not mean that police agents should submit to beatings and antisocial actions, indicated a police officer.
- This Friday morning, the cleaning agencies went to the site to clean up again the structures affected by the demonstrations on Thursday.
- Finally, the controversy generated in recent days by the Chauvin case continues to generate controversy in the social movements that oppose systemic racism, and those who promote it.
