Authorities Detain Boat with 375 Migrants in the English Channel

  • By Joergen Haisem
  • (General Dispatch) – The naval authorities of France and the United Kingdom detained 16 boats with 375 immigrant crew members, who were trying to cross the English Channel.
  • The detention was achieved in a joint work, where the French authorities detained 7 boats with 166 immigrants, and the UK authorities detained 209 immigrants in 9 boats.
  • According to KentOnline media reported that this number of arrests has been the highest in just one day, at the time of arrest the immigrants were immediately taken ashore.
  • The Times said that this arrest brings the year-to-date number to 2,000 immigrants, a figure higher than that of the previous year.
  • A study by the Daily Telegraph predicts that this year, if no immediate measures are taken to reduce immigration, the numbers will be between 20,000 and 25,000 undocumented immigrants passing through the English Channel.
  • Although Minister Priti Pattel has tried to implement certain measures to curb immigration, such as denying citizenship status if entering illegally, people have ignored them.
  • It has been reported that most European countries do not want to cooperate to address the serious migratory situation; it is presumed that one of the factors that has caused the increase in the number of crossings is due to the pandemic.
  • On the other hand, it has been confirmed that most of the immigrants detained are decoys used by the mafias to get other “premium” immigrants to reach the United Kingdom by paying thousands of euros.
