- (General Dispatch) – A recently conducted study was able to learn that a coronavirus infection could cause changes in human airway genes.
- Cusp proteins surrounding the virus that cause covid-19 to bind to receptor cells in the body and release genetic material into the healthy cell is the exposure that changed gene expression in airway cells.
- In that sense, “cells related to the inflammatory response were among those that were modified, which could explain why some people experienced long-term coronavirus symptoms, such as shortness of breath and dizziness, even after recovering from the virus.”
- As explained by Nicholas Evans, a master’s student, it became evident that exposure to the SARS-CoV-2 peak protein alone was sufficient to change gene expression.
- According to the study, this new finding, which has an impact on covid-19, may contribute to the identification of treatments that will be effective in treating patients infected by coronaviruses.
- Evans assures that the scientific advances investigated help to elucidate the variations that occur in patients at the genetic level, in order to know which treatment can be applied depending on the case.
- At the same time, he added that the infection rates in the country have decreased significantly due to the application of the vaccine, which according to the experts is very efficient.
- This is another of the successes obtained by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in its arduous work to clarify the origin and effects of the Chinese pandemic.
