Survey Says 90% of Spanish People do not Trust their Country’s Political Parties

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) – The Eurobarometer survey conducted by the European Union has revealed that a large part of the Spanish population maintains a great distrust of their political parties at 90%.
  • The study caused astonishment since the percentage is above the opinions of citizens in Europe in general, which is 75%, Spaniards have been reluctant when it comes to politics.
  • The media outlet La Vanguardia reported that 75% do not support in any way the development of the congress in the Spanish national parliament, with 60% for the similar institution in the European commission, and 74% directly distrust the current government.
  • The Netherlands was the only country to have a certain degree of confidence in its political parties at 52%, as political management has been good despite the problems of covid-19.
  • Eurobarometer stated that the survey did not take into account the United Kingdom because it has separated from the European Union, however the last one, which was carried out in 2020, showed that it had one of the highest levels of distrust at 84%.
  • On the other hand, although the European bloc has had problems, the degree of confidence of Europeans in its institutions has maintained an acceptable percentage, among which are the Portuguese and Irish between 74% and 78%, while the Greeks and French have low levels between 37 and 39%.
  • However, governments have shown concern, as they hope to raise the degree of confidence of citizens in their political parties, who see that the major factors that have influenced the studies have been the political management in the economic field, health and immigration.
