  • (General Dispatch) – The Italian business association Confesercenti has issued a report expressing concern that the tight restrictions against the coronavirus may lead to the closure of 70,000 premises.

  • The desire is to be able to maintain commercial activity as this represents 46.6% between bars and food services, however it can certainly help against the coronavirus as it would not be done in enclosed spaces.
  • “Almost one out of two premises does not have the opportunity to conduct business outdoors.” said Marco Barbieri, secretary general of Confcomercio in Milan, referring about the problem in his area.
  • However, the association reported that online business increased rapidly as a result of the pandemic, for example amazon had revenue of $2.98 billion in 2019 rising to $4.24 billion in 2020 and a further increase is estimated by the end of the year.
  • The tight restrictions imposed by the Italian government have also affected the tourism sector, which is an important and fundamental factor for the Italian economy.
