Philippine Citizens Don’t Trust Chinese vaccine

  • (General Dispatch) – The Philippine country has had problems in building trust among the population due to doubts raised by the effectiveness of the Chinese vaccine Coronavac.
  • In a television program, retired General Carlito Galvez, Jr. said “What I say to our countrymen, we should not be aware of the brand name”.
  • According to several studies the efficacy of the vaccine created by Chinese state-owned pharmaceutical company Sinovac BioTech “CoronaVac”, has had an efficacy rate of 50.38%, the Philippine government has created campaigns to encourage the population.
  • Many health workers prefer to wait for other options such as Pfizer Biotech or Astrazeneca, vaccines that are more widely accepted by the population for their efficacy rate
  • The efficacy of CoronaVac may be higher, but in individuals who have not had contact with the virus, so health workers have asked the Philippine government to administer other vaccines.
  • The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported “It is recommended that CoronaVac should be administered only to healthy individuals 18 to 59 years of age, but not to the elderly and medical frontliners.”
  • The Philippine government began administering the vaccine on March 2, and expects to receive a donation of 600,000 doses of CoronaVac. The Philippines has been the country with the second highest number of COVID cases in Southeast Asia.
