- (General Dispatch) – A man carried out an attack in the municipality of Vetlanda, where he physically assaulted several people, injuring them with a knife.
- The incident occurred on the Bangårdsgatan road where the 20 year old man, without any reason, began to assault and even stab some of the passers-by.
- The first reports of the incident claim that the attacker had assaulted about 4 people, and when the authorities arrived at the site there were 8 injured with cuts and stab wounds.
- In view of this situation, the officers took action against the individual, managing to control the attack. Police spokesman Thomas Agnevik, referred to the health condition of the attacker.
- Agnevik informed the media “The status of his injury is unclear, but he is in the hospital and was alive when he arrived”, at the same time one of the wounded was in intensive care as he had received deep cuts.
- The Swedish Security Police reported that they ruled out any kind of terrorist attack, however investigations will be carried out and a statement will be issued.
- Officer Karl Melin said “We are cooperating with the police and if it turns out to be a terrorist crime, we will be more involved. When it is a suspected terrorist crime, it is normal for the security police to be the ones to investigate.”
- It has been concluded that one of the possible causes of the attack by the individual is due to a statement made by Per Lindqvist, head of the national security case unit, in which he referred to the current laws against terrorism, which are not strict.
