- (General Dispatch) – A medical expert said that China may be at the bottom of the list of countries where its immunization campaign has not had favorable results due to the discouragement of its inhabitants.
- Zhong Nanshan, an expert in respiratory diseases, said that while China is lagging behind, in the future there will be nations with populations fully immunized with COVID 19.
- The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had set a June immunization goal of about 560 million people but has only been able to reach 65 million.
- These figures are due to the lack of efficacy of the Chinese vaccine compared to others; its population has been reluctant to accept the vaccine willingly.
- The Chinese government has even implemented a campaign to prioritize first those people who are on the front line fighting COVID 19 and have been unwilling to accept the vaccine.
- According to Zhong argues that one of the possible reasons the population does not see a need for the vaccine is that they feel safe with the measures the government has taken to prevent its spread.
- But media reports said the side effects of the Chinese vaccine are still under investigation after some people died with respiratory symptoms days after the injection.
- Making a comparison with other countries the US immunizes 35 per 100 people, UK 42 per 100 people, Israel 111 per 100 people with China’s rate being excessively low at 4 per 100 people.
