China and Pakistan Carry out Cyber Attacks on India

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) – India’s department of technology (MEITY) reported that it was the victim of a major cyber-attack on March 4 from China and Pakistan. Such attacks have increased dramatically since the announcement of the coronavirus blockade.
  • MEITY has called on the Indian government to increase investment in this sector in the face of increasing global technology development, improving the nation’s cyber security will be a key point for the country’s advancement.
  • “With cyber attackers becoming increasingly sophisticated, there is a need for indigenous cybersecurity solutions and products to be developed to counter such unexpected threats in cyberspace” said MEITY
  • Different audits were conducted to identify which security sectors were of interest to the attackers, apparently they wanted to find the weaknesses India has in “endpoint security”.
  • China is currently being blamed for its technological expansionism and economic ambition, political tension in both nations has been rising. India is under investigation for “A series of alleged recent cyber intrusions that may have caused a power outage in Mumbai, crippled banks’ systems and triggered a failure. at the country’s main National Stock Exchange.” said Bloomberg News.
  • India reported with full certainty that it was China after US network experts traced the address of where the attack took place, identifying that the attack was carried out by a group called “Red Echo” which is sponsored by the CCP.
  • “The impact of a cyber-attack targeting a country’s critical infrastructure, whether it is espionage or malicious activity, has the potential to be catastrophic with long-term repercussions. We have long seen China’s cyber efforts targeted around strategic policies and initiatives, and this RedEcho campaign is no exception,” said Dr. Christopher Ahlberg, director of the U.S.-based security firm.
  • China is carrying out either cyber-attacks or attacks on small ethnic groups living along the border in order to intimidate the Indian government, all of which has become even more complicated since the Aksai Chin dispute.
