Biden Against US Energy Independence

  • By James Kravitz
  • (General Dispatch) –  President Biden is far from implementing policies to make the U.S. energy independent, according to the president, who says he prefers to use the labor force to plug oil wells that are not in use.
  • The issue has been important after the passage in the Suez Canal was blocked by the cargo ship “Ever Given”, causing different vessels to be delayed in the delivery of orders, one of them being those of the oil sector.
  • The Suez Canal is an important route through which ships transport refined crude oil from the East and Asia to the European and Western continent; more than 4% of the oil passes through this canal.
  • The economy was affected, the price of oil increased, but it did not last long because the third wave of the coronavirus in Europe caused the demand to decrease, causing prices to fall again.
  • Energy independence was being achieved under the former Trump administration, but was limited when Biden assumed the presidency, with environmental policies that will make the U.S. continue to depend on oil imports.
  • The dependence on oil that the US has had from the East has caused it to succumb to political and economic problems, for that reason one of the main objectives of former President Trump was to make the nation free of energy imports.
  • Just when the president assumed the presidency he issued the order to stop the Keystone XL pipeline project that will energetically link the US and Canada, but the approval of the White House was necessary.
  • However, it was postponed, on the other hand, oil permits on federal lands were suspended, causing a large number of unemployed people; these decisions have not been favorable for the country so far.
