Organizations Have Been Vulnerable to Cyber Attack

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) – 30,000 government and commercial organizations have been victims of hacking through a Microsoft Exchange Server exploit; apparently the technology giant had not realized that it had a bug in the system which was exploited by hackers.
  • According to experts these figures may amount to 250 thousand organizations affected, the exploit was wreaking havoc for two months, gaining access to Microsoft’s customer base.
  • Breitbart News sent a statement where Microsoft alleges that a group of hackers from China, called “Hafnium”, have been trying to carry out repeated attacks in order to gain access to confidential information.
  • The group’s intention was to attack key targets such as law firms, defense contractors, infectious disease researchers and policy think tanks. The cyber threats are coming from the Asian giant, in order to breach US defense.
  • It is presumed that such hackers are funded by the CCP. Thousands of customers were affected. “While many of those affected are likely to have little intelligence value due to the targets of the attack, it is likely that they have also captured high-value espionage targets,” said one of the victims.
  • Microsoft assured its customers that the bug has been resolved, but it will take time to detect what type of information was stolen, other than cleaning up the entire system.
  • A Microsoft representative said the organization is “working closely with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, other government agencies and security companies to ensure that we are providing the best possible guidance and mitigation for our customers.”
