China Acknowledges Soldier Casualties After 8 Months

  • By Anton Grillo
  • (General Dispatch) – The Chinese defense minister pronounces after 8 months about soldiers killed in hand-to-hand clashes with Indian forces in June 2020, which becomes questionable information since India pronounced itself claiming that there were more deaths.
  • The Chinese People’s Liberation Army had a major confrontation with Indian soldiers on the mutual border in the Himalayas in June last year, with Indian officials reporting that they set up a camp in violation of Indian sovereignty in the Galwan Valley.
  • They had a major confrontation with rudimentary weapons where it was reported that there were 20 deaths of Indian officials and it was estimated that the Chinese side was twice as many casualties, even so with the events that took place Beijing was slow to pronounce itself about this incident.
  • On February 20, the Chinese Ministry of Defense admitted the loss of 4 soldiers in the clash that took place in the Galwan Valley, coinciding with the Indian one that had 20 casualties of Indian soldiers, it was reported that one of the survivors will be recognized with first class merits and posthumously those who died.
  • Chinese leaders accuse India of being the provocateurs of these incidents as they allege that they were in Chinese territory, the Global Times reported that such clashes have occurred where Indian forces act using rudimentary tools to fight.
  • “In June 2020, the Indian army violated the previous consensus and trespassed LAC where they built tents. Out of respect for previous agreements and rituals, Qi Fabao, regimental commander of the Chinese army, went to negotiate with some soldiers, however, the Indian army did not show sincerity and had deployed more soldiers in an attempt to force the Chinese soldiers to give in” Assured the Global Times.
  • Prior to these incidents, Beijing and New Delhi reached an agreement whereby no firearms could be carried, the Chinese Ministry of Defense made a statement alleging that the Indian government is exaggerating these incidents to distort information to the international community.
  • The spokeswoman added that the Chinese government must make the truth public due to the misinformation of the facts and it is inexplicable why it took so long for the Chinese Ministry of Defense to release this information.
