  • (General Dispatch) – The Central European sovereign country Czech Republic increased controls in all states due to the high infection rates of COVID 19, about 500 checkpoints were set up according to the Prague (AP).
  • Some 30,000 officers, including police and military, were deployed to ensure that citizens complied with the measures, leaving only those who were strictly required to work or take care of a family member to pass through.
  • This type of measures were activated this Monday as a consequence of a new outbreak of COVID, which is highly contagious coming from Great Britain, so far it is unknown if this outbreak has more aggressive effects, however its level of propagation is very high.
  • In the midst of a wave of infections, Prime Minister Andrej Babis stated that this type of measure seeks to curb the number of patients who have been admitted to hospitals so that they do not collapse, as approximately 1550 people were in intensive care.
  • The Czech population is around 10.8 million inhabitants, the alarming thing is that to date about 1.2 million people have been confirmed infected, being 109.82 per 100,000 people, one of the most alarming per capita figures worldwide.
  • Among other measures, people may exercise as long as they do not move too far away from the area where they live, stores selling basic necessities will be open to the public and institutions serving students with disabilities have been closed.
  • It is concluded that the Czech Government will have to reinforce even more the blockade measures, since those imposed so far have not yielded the expected results.
