- (General Dispatch) – The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) has reported that the measures proposed by Minister Boris Johnson should be extended for a possible outbreak of COVID as a result of the third wave suffered by the European bloc.
- An investigation by the Imperial College of London predicts that by the end of the year the United Kingdom may again suffer another wave of the virus, similar to the one at the beginning of the year.
- Although the country has carried out an excellent immunization campaign for the majority of its population, the Operational subgroup (SPI-MO) of the SAGE stated that hospital admissions may increase again.
- Currently the media have reported, a possible calm regarding the coronavirus, according to Minister Boris has announced that the vaccine can protect people from new outbreaks.
- Even so, the opening of various recreational establishments and outdoor social activities has been announced, and the date of application has been set for the end of June.
- However, the scientists asked the population to maintain biosecurity measures, being important the mandatory use of masks, as well as to maintain social distancing.
- Professor Sir Mark Walport said: “We only have to look across the Channel and see that France currently has more than 39,000 new cases a day, so the virus is still very much present and if we take all the brakes, then it is quite clear that there is a very substantial risk of a new wave of infection.”
