China creates the Digital Vaccine Passport

  • By Wayne Rodrigo
  • (General Dispatch) –  China created a “digital vaccination passport” similar to the one proposed by the European Union. The Asian giant has created this in order to promote travel in the country, identifying the person’s data, vaccination status and the progress of the vaccine if it has been applied.
  • In China, the passport will be mandatory for all those who need to travel domestically or internationally.
  • However, it is under discussion how it will be planned to be valid in other international airports, since for the time being it will only be applied to Chinese citizens.
  • Chinese will be able to download the “vaccine passport” through the app, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the real intention of this system is to “help promote global economic recovery and facilitate cross-border travel.”
  • The digital Passport will include a QR code where it can be scanned through mobile devices, or in different institutions that requires mandatory presentation.
  • France24 reported that this passport is similar to others that have been implemented in other countries (European Union, USA) that have a database on the health of their citizens.
  • The negative aspect of these measures is that various groups claim that this method will create discrimination and further segregate human beings.
