The Sea is Polluted with Anti Covid Masks

  • By Ely Marquez
  • (General Dispatch) – BBC filmed a video with devastating images of a coral reef located in the Philippines, in which a large amount of discarded face masks can be seen.
  • A team of environmentalists reported that some 280 tons of medical surgical waste is being discarded daily.
  • The decomposing plastic in the masks is being ingested by marine species and causing a major disruption to the ecosystem.
  • The pandemic has not only affected the world’s land surfaces, but is also beginning to impact the oceans.
  • Environmental conservationists have repudiated the images contained in the footage, calling for the necessary measures to be taken so that these maritime paradises do not continue to be affected by solid waste.
  • This would not be the first time that the media has expressed concern over the events. In 2017 Attenborough’s Blue Planet II featured a documentary alerting the world to the amount of plastic retained in the oceans.
  • It would be fascinating if human conscience would wake up, and start executing actions in safeguarding our oceans and the marine life inhabiting there expressed a conservationist supporter.
  • The Philippine government should ban face masks for good, so that events like this do not continue to happen is the cry of environmental conservationists in the region.
