  • By Jennifer Prill
  • (General Dispatch) – Mette Frederiksen, the Danish Prime Minister has asked the Syrian refugees in Damascus to return to their homes as a study revealed that the region is safe.
  • According to Frederiksen is assessing the situation, in such a case to revoke the permits granted to large number of Syrians, if it comes to approve it will be applied gradually in the coming months.
  • “If you are a refugee, it is because you need protection. And if that need disappears because you are not individually persecuted or there are no general conditions that require protection, then of course you have to go back to the country you came from,” Minister Frederiksen said.
  • The minister said that while the Syrians remained refugees, the Danish government offered them education and taught them different skills to help them rebuild the Syrian country, so she sees no need for them to remain in Denmark.
  • The announcement was made twelve months after the government is evaluating which measure to adopt for the unemployed Syrian community that remained in the shelters.
  • According to a Danish media there are currently 8900 unemployed Syrians, but the deportation project will be applied to those who have been residing in the country for more than 5 years.
  • Apart from having received support from the government for a period of a year or more, this social expenditure has generated some annoyance as it is attributed a cost for the nation, money that comes out of the taxpayers’ pockets.
  • On the other hand, Danish Minister of Immigration and Integration Mattias Tesfaye said, “We need to be more honest and straightforward. Some immigrants have been on welfare for a long time. They have never managed to become part of society. Maybe it would be better for everyone if they returned to their own country”.
