White House supports banning of National Anthem by Mavericks

  • (General Dispatch), White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, expressed her support for Mavericks owner Mark Cuban for removing the national anthem from the NBA team’s home games.
  • The main reason Mark Cuban decided to remove the anthem is because he feels the anthem does not represent them.
  • Of course, this news has caused quite a stir. Getting both positive and negative reactions from the public.
  • Psaki assured President Joe Biden is “proud to be an American and has great respect for the anthem,” she also said he would support the Mavericks for calling out the frequent times when “we as a country haven’t lived up to our highest ideals.”
  • Other NBA teams are also expected to join the campaign to send a message of social justice and equal rights.
  • An anonymous source assures that “Mark Cuban decision to not play Anthem before Mavs games isn’t because they don’t love the U.S., but because many feel the anthem doesn’t represent them, and they want to continue discussion of how to represent people from all communities when honoring the U.S. at the game”
  • For now, the NBA has not made a statement, as well as the players, but a statement is expected in which they will determine a position regarding this situation.
  • It remains to be seen if this trend will be adopted by other NBA teams, but for now they have the endorsement of the White House and a wave of mixed opinions.
