Biden calls on China and its leader
- (General Dispatch) – In a recent Speech President Biden expressed concern about China’s coercive policies and human rights in Taiwan.
- He also added that the United States will not interfere in the internal affairs of the country.
- The White House assures that China and the United States have immediate common interests such as containing COVID 19, climate change and the proliferation of weapons.
- Biden referred to China’s president “I know him pretty well, he’s very bright and he’s very tough and – I don’t mean it as a criticism, it’s just a reality – he doesn’t have a democratic bone in his body.”
- The White House also took the opportunity to congratulate the Chinese people on their holiday and wished them a Happy New Year.
- The current administration has been open to cooperating with China as long as it serves the overall interests of the United States.
- Biden has a long friendship with Xi Jinping (President of China), since he was Vice President in the Obama administration, so tensions are expected to ease.
- For the time being, the outlook is calm and diplomatic relations between the Asian giant and the United States are expected to improve.
