  • By Joergen Haisem
  • (General Dispatch) – Britain has conducted air strikes in conjunction with Iraqi troops after Islamic State terrorist groups have established bases in the nation, and the UK will maintain these operations for 5 days.
  • The planes used for the operation were the Eurofighter Typhoon, a fighter created by European companies Eurofighter GmbH, considered one of the best fighter planes in service. In the attack they used Storm Shadow missiles and Paveway IV guided bombs.
  • This type of missiles are long range and are programmed before the attack, the Paveway IV guided bombs are used to mark the target and to be used with other weapons, these were used in northern Iraq.
  • The attacks were carried out on different dates in March on some infrastructures that the Islamist groups used as a base of operations.
  • The strikes were authorized after Iraqi authorities identified bases being used by Daesh fighters southwest of Erbil.
  • “The bases were assessed as particularly difficult targets and therefore two RAF Typhoon FGR4s were tasked to conduct strikes in support of highly trained Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service ground forces” said the Iraqi defense ministry statement.
  • According to a statement from the British royal force said that the attack was successful as the missiles hit the assigned targets, however the movement of Daesh members was not observed.
  • This type of air operations are carried out in conjunction with other countries that have a campaign called “Operation Inherent Resolve”, which aims to limit the Islamic State from carrying out attacks against Syria and Iraq.
