Iraq Seeks Compensation for Citizens Affected by Covid-19 Vaccine

  • By Ely Márquez
  • (General Dispatch) – By means of a bill, this Sunday, the Iraqi Senate approved the legislation that exempts the manufacturers of the vaccine against the covid-19 imported from China, from the side effects generated in the organism.
  • In essence, the legislation exempts companies that produce and distribute the vaccine against the Chinese coronavirus in Iraqi territory from civil and criminal liability for the adverse effects it may cause.
  • For its part, the bill was based on the demands made by the international companies, whose condition was to be free of civil and criminal liabilities, informed Minister Hassan Khalati.
  • In the same vein, the international companies, including Pfizer, said they were satisfied with the regulations established by the Ministry of Health and the Senate, which gave them full freedom to carry out their work.
  • In the meantime, the producing companies are reportedly receiving raw materials from Chinese pharmaceutical companies to guarantee the requested demand for vaccines in the Iraqi nation.
  • However, the Iraqi Council of Ministers approved compensation for the families of people who died as a result of the side effects caused by the vaccine. The amount amounts to about $7,000 exclusively for employees who operated in the pandemic.
  • It should be noted that this aid is intended to encourage health personnel to continue to perform their duties at a time when the pandemic is still present in the world.
  • In the coming months, it is expected that the vaccines will be ready to be distributed to citizens to counteract the effects of Covid-19.
