Facebook Suffers Massive Leak of Users’ Personal Data

  • (General Dispatch) –  The media Breitbart News reported that the large social network Facebook was the victim of a cyber-attack where criminals were able to extract a large amount of personal data of users.
  • According to an investigation the figure was 533 million users who were affected by the cyber-attack, where emails, phone numbers, locations were extracted.
  • The financial media outlet Business Insider said that 106 countries were affected, including more than 32 million user records in the U.S., 11 million users in the U.K. and 6 million users in India.
  • After the attack was carried out, a web page was created where any Facebook user can verify if they were a victim of theft of their personal data through HaveIBeenPwned.com.
  • To verify if your account was a victim of information leakage you must enter the page mentioned (HaveIBeenPwned.com) and enter the email affiliated to the Facebook account.
  • The page should diagnose your email, it will not ask you for any password, but it will let you know if you were a victim of data theft, asking you as a security measure to change your password apart from adding other measures to reinforce.
  • Apart from the Facebook social network, you will be able to verify the history of the historical movements that have been made with the mail, and check that other pages became a victim of data theft.
