Racial Inequality Continues to Grow in Jobs Under Biden Administration

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) – In the first month of U.S. President Joe Biden’s term in office, unemployment among blacks and whites has deteriorated sharply.
  • Despite the fact that unemployment has fallen in the United States, and that the economy will generate new sources of employment. Compensation continues to be unequal.
  • According to data released Friday, unemployment fell sharply among Asians, while both whites and Hispanics saw a slight decline in the unemployment rate. But it rose sharply among people of African descent.
  • The unemployment rate for people of African descent closed February with a total of 9.9%, a 5.7% decrease compared to whites, Hispanics and Asians.
  • The levels of decline are really alarming for this population, if we compare the rates according to gender; men registered a 10.2% unemployment rate.
  • It is clear that before the arrival of the coronavirus, the employment gap between blacks and whites would have been reduced to really low levels during the term of former President Donald Trump.
  • It is important to note that the unemployment rate has fluctuated from one decade to the next, but has always been higher for people of African descent than for whites.
  • Finally, this fraction of the labor force enjoyed better conditions in the past presidency. It is hoped that new economic policies could mean better opportunities for this sector.
