- (General Dispatch) – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is asking the Biden administration to approve its request to eliminate the measures they have been performing on immigrants to check their health status about the virus.
- Earlier in 2020 the Trump administration had done a great job at the border having enforced CDC Title 42, which allows border officials to apprehend immigrants and immediately return them to their home countries.
- The big unknown now with Title 42 is due to the fact that in the Trump administration more than 500 thousand immigrants were deported and currently with President Biden they have only deported more than 75 thousand having a very considerable gap, when currently the amount of immigrants trying to cross the border is high.
- Breitbart News reported that President Biden is evaluating ending Title 42, something that has been heavily criticized for the catastrophic consequences it could bring to the border.
- The official Alejandro Mayorkas is supporting the decision to repeal Title 42 since these tests are being applied to seniors who are accompanied by minors.
- Since March of last year DHS has deported more than 30,000 families, Alejandro Mayorkas is calling for this specific group to be dealt with by federal immigration officials.
- A conflict looms as Republicans ask Mayorkas to reveal the true numbers of immigrants who have tested positive for COVID 19 and were released into the country. Mayorkas responded that he cannot release any information under orders from the White House.
