Baghdad Scene of Attack Following Pope’s Departure

- (General Dispatch) – Muslim pilgrims were surprised by a grenade attack, specifically at the Al-Aimmah bridge in Baghdad, resulting in one person dead and ten others seriously injured.
- An individual allegedly threw a grenade at a group of people passing by.
- In order to celebrate the commemoration of the death of Imam al-Kadhim, a considerable number of pilgrims gathered at the cemetery. The attacker took advantage of this fact to carry out his deed.
- Consequently, minutes earlier the authorities had arrested at least three terrorists, who organized the suicide attack.
- The detonation took place a few hours after the pope’s departure from the nation.
- However, the security agencies deployed at the scene were not enough, as the terrorists succeeded in their objective.
- The last few years that this celebration has taken place in the locality; it has been the victim of suicide attacks, most of which have left regrettable events.
- Every year Shiite Muslims travel from different parts of the world to celebrate this tradition, for which citizens expressed to the authorities to take greater security measures.
