Mayor of Paris Speaks out Against Social Media Accusations

  • (General Dispatch) –    Anne Hidalgo, the left-wing mayor of Paris, has spoken out against various accusations made by a right-wing group through social networks.
  • The right-wing group accused the poor management of solid waste, which affects the streets of Paris, leaving a bad image, being this a capital that is visited by many tourists.
  • Hidalgo said through a radio interview, that the impetus for this offensive is being orchestrated, and the users who have too many followers, are the accounts of the extreme right.
  • “It’s a fairly simple method of Trumpizing political life everywhere, even in France,” Mayor Hidalgo said, making a comparison of President Trump’s administration.
  • The protests through the networks has caused a stir in the Parisian community, has had great acceptance and support for the groups that raised the complaint, the hashtag has been “#saccageparis”.
  • Hidalgo said that it is a smear campaign against her, after different images and videos were published in the days that Easter was celebrated, showing a large amount of solid waste around the streets.
  • However, the mayor stated in her defense that the photos and videos were taken hours before the cleaning workers were to perform their work, and that as a consequence of the pandemic, the number of workers has decreased.
  • The media outlet Le Figaro reported the responses of different interviewees in La Forche in the north of Paris, and they affirmed that the city is being poorly cared for, including the solid waste that remains outside the businesses that prepare food.
