Poland Affected by the Third Wave of Covid-19

  • By John Deloria
  • (General Dispatch) –  The Polish media outlet AP reported that coronavirus cases have increased dramatically in the Easter week as a result of not complying with biosecurity measures.
  • The increase in cases of covid-19 has been dramatic in hospitals because of the number of admissions; the mortality rate has increased in just two days exceeding more than 100 people.
  • According to the media, the cases increased due to the influx of people from the East and Central Europe, reporting figures of more than 35,000 infections per day.
  • The government had prepared by announcing a series of restrictions to avoid the accelerated spread of Covid-19, but they did not succeed, and hospitals are currently collapsed.
  • On the other hand, the immunization campaign has been delayed due to the problems encountered by the European Commission to distribute the doses to different countries of the bloc, having the necessity to apply certain blockades to the exportation of vaccines.
  • A group of doctors from the Bochnia County Hospital told the media that the number of stretchers could not cover the number of admissions over the weekend.
  • An 82-year-old patient Edward Szumanski said, “The disease is certainly there and it’s very serious. Those who haven’t gone through it, those who don’t have it in their family, may be fooling themselves, but the reality is different.”
  • So far the government intends to further increase the restrictions, the number of deaths last Sunday is presumed to be more than 200, however the solution that has been applied by health personnel has been to discharge patients who have minimal complications.
