Covid Prosecutions From 2020 in UK are Illegal

  • By Anton Grillo
  • (General Dispatch) – The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) issued a statement about the arrests that were made in 2020 after severe blocking measures were imposed due to the coronavirus.
  • According to the prosecutor’s office, most of the arrests that were made did not involve violations of the law that would require prosecution, and have even been called illegal after the “Coronavirus Law” was imposed.
  • The law gave officers the authority to detain people with possible cases of COVID 19, as well as to prevent large gatherings from taking place, and to fine anyone who did not comply with the legislation up to £10,000.
  • The CPS tracked the arrests that have been made under the “Coronavirus Law”. 6 of these arrests were illegal in February alone, as they lacked grounds for a prosecution.
  • In total 252 cases have been found since the law was created, authorities have gone so far as to wrongly detain about 47 people, according to for not complying with coronavirus regulations.
  • CPS director Gregor McGill said “We remain committed to reviewing all these cases for as long as necessary to ensure the right people are charged with the right offenses.”
  • Minister Boris Johnson is assessing easing the measures, with coronavirus blockades despite a health ministry think tank saying a third wave is predicted in the EU.
  • Conservative MP Mark Harper and leader of the skeptical Covid Recovery Group said he hopes the “coronavirus law” will not be so strict, he expects ministers to implement new measures for the law as people are prosecuted without some kind of evidence.
  • A clear example was the arrest of people who have been sitting in squares or walking their pets, complied with biosecurity regulations and were still forcibly taken away by the authorities.
