Biden Fires Independent Board Appointees

  • By James Kravitz
  • (General Dispatch) – The Biden administration broke with a historic tradition by firing members of independent agencies elected in the Trump administration
  • One of the appointed members, Roger Severino, has sued the Biden administration, alleging the following “The Council does not wield any executive power — indeed, it does not wield any power at all as a purely advisory entity — so President Biden has no constitutional power to terminate Mr. Severino or any other member of the Council.”
  • Severino was supposed to serve 3 years in the Administrative Conference of the United States, but with this decision his position was abruptly interrupted.
  • Removing members of the independent agencies is an inappropriate decision that breaks with American tradition. The Trump administration did not remove members elected during the Obama administration. This exposes the current administration even more.
  • Severino was not the only one to be removed from his position; Jennifer Dickey, Andrew Kloster, Paul Dans, Gibson Worsham, and Dan Epstein were also removed.
  • The person in charge of promoting this agenda is Gautam Raghavan, deputy director of the Presidential Personnel Office (PPO), the office in charge of hiring and firing politicians in the current administration.
  • There also appears to be a deeper agenda to remove Trump appointees from office on two of the agencies that oversee planning for the city of Washington D.C., the National Capital Planning Commission and the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts.
  • For now the legal battle will continue, while the Biden administration seems determined to eliminate all traces of the Trump period. We will keep an eye on how this situation ends.
