  • By Wayne Rodrigo
  • (General Dispatch) – According to the media Berlin AP, the German government will apply blockades again after an increase in cases of COVID 19; the measures will be even stronger than the previous ones.
  • Chancellor Angela Merkel has been trying to reach an agreement with the country’s 16 governors, as Germany is governed by decentralized powers and is seeking to unify an agreement regarding the blockades that should be imposed.
  • While they reach an agreement, the states are witnessing a spike in new cases of coronavirus since the UK unveiled a new variant of the virus which has higher infection rates.
  • The Chancellor proposes that the measures should last until the last two weeks of April; infection figures have been 100 per 100,000 inhabitants per day. Merkel said that all those stores that had been allowed to partially open their doors will be closed again.
  • Officials are assessing how to plan measures for Easter week after many public places have been closed since November, including the tourism sector which has been affected by closed hotels.
  • However, they have issued alerts and warned all those who have booked rooms in hotels in Spain that they should abide by the protective measures or even avoid traveling, according to the authorities.
  • In the event that some people choose to travel, when they return from their destinations they must undergo mandatory COVID 19 testing.
  • Germany has undergone a slow vaccination process in the face of contractual disputes involving the European Union bloc.
