Boris Johnson says Vaccine Passports will be Mandatory in the Future

  • By James Kravitz
  • (General Dispatch) –  Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the requirement for vaccine passports in the future will not only be needed for travel but will have other positive uses.
  • Johnson, in an interview with Downing Street, said that for the UK to implement this type of “vaccine passport” system is something totally new, it was not planned for the agenda that the minister had created to gradually emerge from the pandemic.
  • Boris said that this passport has some similarity with the certificates that are required when other diseases affected the population worldwide, what will make it different is that later on it will serve for other types of uses.
  • Boris has been analyzing how to implement it, after the Minister of Vaccines, Nadhim Zahawi, had informed different media that it would not be used due to the “discriminatory” consequences.
  • Johson’s statements were made a few days after the European Union ruled on legislation to implement the “vaccine passport” system in all member countries.
  • “There are deep and complex questions that we have to explore, ethical questions about what is the role of government in requiring people to have such things or, indeed, prohibiting people from doing such things” the minister said.
  • According to a survey of Britons, more than 50% approved of its implementation, advising that it should be required for entry to health centers, nursing homes, places for physical exercise, pubs or places of social recreation.
