Campaign Denouncing Garbage in the Streets of Paris Causes Annoyance to Government Officials

  • (General Dispatch) – A campaign created through social networks with the hashtag “#saccageparis” has tried to discredit Paris due to the large amount of solid waste that is kept in the streets.
  • The government made a statement, presenting the annoyance caused by this type of information, after they published through the social network Twitter photos and videos of the garbage found in the surroundings.
  • The government said that it maintains 2500 people in charge of cleaning the streets, but due to the pandemic, the number of people working was reduced to protect their safety from the coronavirus.
  • Such a reduction of employees causes the cleanup work to be delayed, however the government said it has been a political strategy to take photos and videos before the respective cleanup is carried out.
  • Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Populist Rally (RN) praised those Parisians who uploaded multimedia content and carried out this campaign, raising awareness of the situation with the environment.
  • “The degradation of our beautiful capital by the Hidalgo team is a national suffering that should not leave any of the French indifferent” said Le Pen, a message addressed to the poor planning of the mayor.
  • Through a radio program on the RTL radio station, Emmanuel Gregoire, first deputy mayor of Paris, said that solid waste has been a problem in the capital, it has been regrettable being Paris a site frequented by tourists.
  • On the other hand, the leftist mayor Anne Hidalgo has received fierce criticism as crime levels are on the rise, and different inhabitants of the 17th arrondissement have preferred to take justice into their own hands.
